Schönbrunn Palace, which has 8 million visitors annually, is the most visited historical structure in Austria in this respect. In 1996, it was included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage. This palace, which served as the summer palace of the Habsburg dynasty throughout history, was transferred to the Republic of Austria in 1918 and opened to visitors. Schönbrunn Palace

The name of the palace means “a beautiful spring”. Franz Josef, the wife of the famous Empress Sisi, was born and died in this palace. The palace has 1441 rooms. Today, there are Palm House and Tiergarten Zoo in the area covered by the palace, which is open to touristic visits. This area has been a summer cottage used for hunting for about 1 century. Afterwards, Emperor Leopold wanted a palace to be built in 1693 and the palace was built as it is today.
In 1728, the palace was gifted to his daughter Maria Theresa by Charles VI. Maria Theresa had the palace remodeled by the architect Nikolaus Paccassi. As a result of these arrangements, the palace was expanded and its interior decoration was changed. As a result of these changes, the palace has become one of the highest level works of Baroque architecture, which is visited by millions of tourists every year.
A special attention should be paid to the garden of the palace. Even visiting the garden, which is spread over a fairly large area, will take a few hours. You can get lost in the labyrinth of trees in the garden, or you can sip your coffee while enjoying the view at the cafe at the top.
